Travelling
to work the other day, a car came towards me wide of the bend at high
speed. It smashed into the car immediately in front of me that I managed
to swerve around while the other continued headlong into a nearby wall. In
five seconds, it was over. The mess took rather longer to clear up.
This
time, no-one was hurt, but the reality of death was upon us all as we
exchanged names and addresses with the police and watched the ambulance
service go calmly about their business.
We
go about our lives like we’re going to live forever. We don’t spend
our time dwelling on dying which is only proper, but neither do we give
time to wondering what happens after death. It’s not until death is upon
us do we ask questions.
I
could have died that morning in a car crash. My eternity would have begun.
There would have been no more time to decide about Jesus. My time would
have been up. For many people today, that is a reality. They will die and
not know where there are going.
Jesus
said: ‘In my Father’s house are many rooms. I go to prepare a place
for you.’
What
he meant was that after we die, there is a place in heaven prepared for
us. Jesus’ reason for coming was to share the love of God with us. God
wants us to make a decision about his Son.
We
can choose to reject Jesus and spend eternity without him – or we can
accept him as Saviour and go to heaven when we die.
We
don’t have time to make a decision on the day of our death. Death will
come quickly and unexpectedly. We need to make an urgent decision. Decide
for Jesus now.
